Start with the outcome, then choose the surface
Route work by business outcome, not tool habit. Most teams should default to Cowork for multi-step GTM and operations workflows, use Claude Chat for quick drafts and research, and reserve Claude Code for real repository, testing, and deployment work.
- Claude Chat: quick questions, one-off drafts, contained plans.
- Cowork: GTM, operations, client delivery, and CRM workflows across connected tools.
- Claude Code: code repositories, tests, deployments, and development environments.
Deliver like a forward-deployed team
Own the outcome: understand the user, map the workflow, ship the smallest useful change, validate it, and make it repeatable.
- Define the user, desired behavior, baseline, and success metric.
- Trace the current workflow end to end and find the highest-friction handoff.
- Write a short plan with scope boundaries and human review gates.
- Build the minimum viable workflow and test it before broad rollout.
- Review real output with the user and document the decision.
- Assign an owner, publish the SOP, and schedule the next measurement.
Quick start: first login to one useful outcome in under an hour
- Start in Plan Mode for anything with multiple steps or real risk.
- Turn on connectors incrementally, never all at once.
- Inspect the final output before changing any client-facing or external system.
Connectors: least privilege by default
A connector (MCP) lets Claude work inside one outside tool. Search your knowledge base before recreating work, enable only the connector the immediate workflow needs, and never mix accounts or data across employers, clients, or personal use.
Safe use and the quality bar
- Filesystem access is not a sandbox. Scope it to one project folder, never your whole Desktop, Documents, or home folder.
- Authenticated browser automation acts as you. Keep financial logins in a separate browser profile and never point it at untrusted content.
- Browser extensions: treat anything that can read all site data, email, or calendar as high risk; set site access to "on click" and review quarterly.
- Never automate LinkedIn or Sales Navigator. Review each message yourself and send it manually.
- Never run destructive file actions, force-pushes, or hard resets without explicit sign-off.
Engineering work: five phases, two human gates
Set up, collect signals, plan with approval, execute one fix at a time, then validate and deploy with approval. Commit and test each fix individually, and never use Auto Mode for unplanned work.
Onboarding path
- Week 1: connect essentials only, complete one 30–60 minute task, review the output.
- Week 2: build one repeatable workflow, add role-specific skills, share one win and one gotcha.
- Ongoing: improve workflows, document decisions, ship useful work.
